What is the Soil Efficiency Index (SEI™)?
SEI™ is a soil system performance metric that transforms routine soil test data into a simple score that reveals how efficiently your soil system is functioning. It answers the question: “How do I know if what I’m doing is working?”
How is SEI™ calculated?l Efficiency Index (SEI™)?
SEI™ uses key soil properties from routine soil tests — including OM, CEC, pH, Ca, Mg, K, P, and micronutrients — evaluated through proprietary algorithms developed by SDG Plant Nutrition. The goal is to measure how effectively a soil system stores, cycles, and delivers nutrients to support crop production.
What soil tests are supported?
SEI™ works with most standard agricultural soil tests. Required inputs are OM, CEC, pH, Ca, Mg, K, and P. Micronutrient data is encouraged when available. Contact us if you’re unsure whether your test qualifies.
How long does analysis take?
Most reports are delivered within 2–3 business days of upload. Enterprise and consulting packages may require additional time for custom analysis.
Can I track progress over time?
Yes — and that’s one of SEI™’s most powerful uses. By uploading soil tests from multiple years, you can track efficiency trends, evaluate management decisions, compare fields, and measure progress toward your soil improvement goals.
Can consultants and agronomists use SEI™?
Absolutely. SEI™ was designed to support growers, consultants, agronomists, ag retailers, and regenerative programs. Enterprise plans include tools for multi-client management, white-label reporting, and professional delivery formats.
Is SEI™ a soil health score?
No. SEI™ is not intended to replace soil health testing. It complements traditional measurements by providing a practical indicator of soil system efficiency — focused on how well the soil functions to support nutrient availability, fertilizer efficiency, and crop production.
Why is a single score useful?
Growers often receive pages of data but still struggle to know where to focus. SEI™ simplifies that into one trackable benchmark. The score itself is valuable — but the real value comes from understanding what is driving the score and what actions can improve it.
What makes SEI™ different from other tools?
Most soil tests tell you what is present. SEI™ tells you what is limiting efficiency, where the opportunities are, whether your management decisions are working, and how performance is changing over time. Built on science. Focused on outcomes. Designed for your bottom line.
